What belongs in a painting proposal
Painting proposals live or die on prep and product. Say how many coats, which paint (brand and line), whether trim and ceilings are included, and what prep is covered: patching, sanding, caulking, priming. Rooms make good line items so the customer can drop one to fit a budget. Ceilings, trim, and accent walls are the usual optional items. Furniture moving, colour changes after the first coat, and touch-up windows belong in the terms.

Terms that belong in a painting proposal
Promise extended coverage on the bid: a longer warranty on labor is often what wins painting work against a cheaper number, and it costs nothing on the day you offer it. Set the terms on the proposal and they print with the scope the customer accepts, carry through to the invoice, and start counting down when that invoice is paid. From there warranty tracking keeps the coverage dates, an estimate of the labor and parts you could still owe, and any callback filed against the job.

Frequently asked questions
Should a painting proposal price per room or per square foot?
Per room for interiors, so the customer can add or remove rooms, and per square foot for exteriors where the surface drives the cost. Either way, state coats and product so cheaper bids are visibly comparing a different job.
Are ceilings and trim usually included in a painting quote?
Not unless the proposal says so, which is why they make ideal optional items. Listing them with prices avoids the day-one conversation and often adds them to the job.
